Vice President Joe Biden’s press secretary apologized to a Capital News Service reporter and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism Wednesday after a press office staffer demanded the reporter delete photos taken at an event in Rockville. The reporter, a credentialed member of the press who is a student at the University of Maryland, College Park, was covering a domestic violence event featuring Biden, Attorney General Eric Holder and Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin.

Jim Finnegan, the editorial writer who marshalled facts and a firebrand wit to formulate the outspoken, conservative voice of the Manchester Union Leader for nearly four decades, died Saturday at the age of 82. The Manchester Guild also remembers Finnegan as an active member and Guild supporter who is believed to have been a union member for his entire career at the paper -- making him the last Guild-represented employee to write editorials there. After many false starts and frustrations, the Pacific Media Workers Guild reports that it has reached an agreement with a broker who will help members of the Guild Freelancers unit secure discounted health insurance. The program is now in place and by early April everyone in the unit will receive an application via email.
