During the shootout and standoff in California on Tuesday night, the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Office asked reporters to stop tweeting in the event that suspect Christopher Dorner was monitoring Twitter (police made the same request of TV viewers).  KPCC didn’t comply with the request and posted some bewildered reaction from media outlets and consumers alike. “It’s not unusual, particularly in a police standoff, for police to ask television in particular to be very careful in their live coverage,” Poynter’s Al Tompkins told me in a phone call. “But this idea of Twitter coverage is a new wrinkle.”

Members of the National Union of Journalists at the BBC will walk out on Feb. 18 and stage a one-day nationwide strike unless the broadcaster stops compulsory redundancies and redeploys those at risk elsewhere in the corporation, the union said in a statement.

Teri Buhl, an investigative journalist who writes about Wall Street, is threatening to sue a blogger who has published Buhl's tweets. Buhl claims her tweets are private and has this wording on her Twitter profile page: "No Tweets are Publishable." That became a story earlier this week; now Buhl is threatening to sue Jim Romenesko and others who have covered the story and used her Twitter photo with it.  She emailed Romenesko: "I am going to push it. It’s a matter a principle I am sick of other publications lifting other jurnos ideas, photos, words etc… and printing them on their publications with out permission or proper credit with links etcc. I think it’s an issue that should have been challenged a long time ago. I took the photo I own it etc…"
