MinnPost News Editor Don Effenberger says the website is tightening its standards for commenters after repeated complaints about disruptive posts. The new rule is "We will reject inflammatory and highly provocative comments that seem likely to hijack the comment thread — by making the discussion more about the commenter's inflammatory view than about the story. We also will reject comments that are clearly off-topic." The website already has more rules than some, banning gratuitous insults, requiring commenters to use their real names and banning "the use of nicknames for people or groups that are meeant to denigrate or deride." For instance, MinnPost doesn't allow the use of "Democrat" as an adjective, and has banned several derogatory terms for the Tea Party.
