'99 Percent Spring Training' Draws a Crowd to CWA HQ

Guild staffers were among a packed crowd in CWA’s lobby conference room Thursday night for a crash course in collective action, one of hundreds of meetings nationwide dubbed “spring training for the 99 percent.” The inspiring, high-energy programs are being held nationwide, and many CWA and Guild members have attended. 'The Surgeon and the Newspaperman'

From the Guild's archives, a Cleveland Press editorial from 1946 that praises the union and the professionalism of its members: "There is a professional analogy between the surgeon and the newspaperman….The newspaper reporter in quest of information for his paper maintains the same professional attitude. It is the reporter’s sole mission to establish the facts in a given situation, to search out the truth as nearly as he can find it. Like the doctor he does not concern himself with race, religion, political or economic beliefs of those who happen to be figuring in a given set of circumstances.

Sari Gelzer Joins TNG-CWA Executive Council

Sari Gelzer, of the TruthOut Unit of United Media Workers (formerly St Louis Local 36047) has been certified as interim TNG-CWA Region 6 Vice President on the Sector Executive Council. Gelzer fills the vacancy created when Jennifer Towery resigned to take a job out of Guild jurisdiction.
