Preceding a planned protest Sunday by the Minnesota Guild and allies outside the Cathedral of St. Paul, the MinnPost writes, "In what appears to be one of those “Do what I say, not what I do” moves, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is giving the boot to a union that has been negotiating contracts with the church for nearly  half a century."

In a memo to staff of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com, returning Philadelphia Media Network Publisher Bob Hall says a report of $4 million profit didn’t take into account “items such as interest, taxes, depreciation, etc., and that the company "will probably experience another substantial loss this year." Still, Philadelphia Guild Executive Director Bill Ross says he's "cautiously optimistic with the new ownership group. Hall has a proven track record in running this enterprise, and our members will do everything in their power to get the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com back to the dominant sources of news and advertising in our region. The past two ownership groups decimated the operation with lay-offs and nothing but a mouthful of promises and a pocket full of lies." 

Stand up for the flag, stand up for the Guild. That's the message of fliers that the Dayton Guild left early this morning on members' desks in honor of Flag Day, today, June 14. "On this Flag Day, Cox Media Group is preparing to send advertising production jobs offshore to low-wage countries like the Philippines, according to a Dayton Business Journal article. And the company continues to insist on the power to replace Guild-represented newsroom jobs that can’t be offshored with low-paid freelancers," Dayton Guild leaders said in announcing the fliers on their blog.
