NY Guild President Bill O'Meara told Poynter on Thursday that if mediation produces a deal between the union and the New York Times, it will probably happen by early November. The timeline is based on the company's proposed new pension plan, which would likely be launched at the beginning of a calendar year.  That means paperwork would have to be in process by mid-November. Speaking at a statewide membership meeting Saturday, California Federation of Interpreters President Michael Ferreira urged interpreters to actively support their bargaining teams and make sure they're informed about what's going on in the profession. He said one of the best ways to get involved is through a "Watch and Support" team to observe negotiations. First used by Region 4, the group helped change the tone of the court administration spokesman during negotiations, Ferreira said, and showed both sides that members support their bargaining committee.
